Careers in financial services take many different forms. It's an industry that draws talent and skills from all disciplinary backgrounds. Panelists

Rui Cui, MBA/PhD, Vice President, DaleyTang: Mr. Cui serves as Vice President of DaleyTang. He focuses on the evaluation and execution of transactions out of both the Chicago and Shanghai offices. Mr. Cui’s past experiences include academic consultant to the Committee on Capital Market Regulation at Harvard Law School and analyst with UBS Investment Bank in Hong Kong. His research in finance won the best paper award at the 25th Australian Finance and Banking Conference in Sydney, Australia. He received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a PhD in Financial Economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the Department of Economics.

Thomas Kim, PhD, Co-Chief Investment Officer at Mansur & Co: Thomas W. Kim, Ph.D., is the Co-Chief Investment Officer at Mansur & Company, a boutique asset management firm specializing in private equity, hedge fund, and real estate investments.  Thomas manages the firm’s internal multi-strategy portfolio, especially those investments in the event driven and global macro style categories; he also directs the external, alternative investment fund allocations business.  Prior to his current role, Thomas worked in research and trading at Bear Stearns and Motorola.  He holds a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Chicago (2012), an M.A. from Boston College (1998) and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University.

Joel Schneider, MBA, Portfolio Manager and Vice President at Dimensional Fund Advisors: As a portfolio manager, Joel Schneider manages global equity portfolios and is responsible for strategy execution. His responsibilities include order generation, cash management, foreign currency trading, performance analysis, and interaction with current and prospective clients.

Prior to Dimensional, Joel worked as a management consultant at ZS Associates in Chicago. His work there included developing statistical models to measure returns on business investments and to allocate resources optimally. Previously, Joel worked in engineering and business development at Lockheed Martin, designing and developing communication systems for the US Navy and Air Force. 

Joel holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, an MS in industrial engineering from University of Minnesota, and a BS in computer engineering from Iowa State University

Wansu Zhan, MS, Financial Engineer, Chicago Trading Company: Wansu Zhan is a Financial Engineer at Chicago Trading Company, started this March. She holds a M.S. in Financial Mathematics from The University of Chicago and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Peking University. Prior to CTC, Wansu was a Quantitative Research Associate with the CME Group for more than 2 years.

Malaina Brown, MA, Senior Associate Director, PhD Program at University of Chicago Booth School of Business: Malaina Brown is the Senior Associate Director of the PhD Program at Chicago Booth.  Prior to joining Booth in 2003, Malaina worked at the University’s Career Advancement office and at Columbia University.  Malaina received an MA in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis and a BA in Anthropology and History from the University of Michigan.
